Chargers Brighten Kids’ Day at CHOC Children’s Hospital of Orange County

Fresh off their 27-22 win over the New York Giants on Sunday, the Los Angeles Chargers were beaming in the locker room.

On Tuesday, players shared those smiles with patients at CHOC Children’s Hospital of Orange County, continuing the Spanos Family and team’s legacy of giving back to the community.

“It was great coming to CHOC Children’s Hospital of Orange County today and spending some time with the kids and meeting their families,” Derek Watt said.  “We’re just trying to bring some sort of positive light into their day.  We tried to get to know them a little bit and gave them some goodies we had, like hats, wristbands and stickers.”

The day hit home for a few Chargers like Joey Bosa, who said visiting hospitals was something he used to do in college.

“I have a past of visiting kids so it’s always great to come out, make a kid’s day and put a smile on their face,” he mentioned.

Blessed with good health and the ability to play a game they love, the players know some kids aren’t as fortunate.  But, it’s visits like Tuesday’s that keep life in perspective for the Chargers.

“It’s great to come and see them, and see the smiles you can bring to them just by showing up,” Watt added.  “Giving them a few minutes of our time, it really is special with what that does for them.  Seeing how thankful they were today, it was great for me and was truly humbling to come and meet some of these people.” Read
